Socialist Bernie Sanders’ failure to gain traction in more moderate Iowa is not nearly as surprising as former Vice President Joe Biden’s apparent failure to launch according to a new Des Moines Register poll of likely voters. In fact, Biden’s once 30-point margin over his next closest rival for the 2020 Democratic nomination has diminished by a third. Sanders, meanwhile, is ranking third by a single point, as Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) and Mayor Pete Buttigieg have hit double digits and are nipping at his heels. Let the bucket of crabs begin.
