European Council President Donald Tusk recently made some alarming comments about the United States. He said, “Dear America, appreciate your allies, after all you don’t have all that many.” Well, it should come as no surprise that President Trump was not going to take that lying down.
In his first chance to respond to those comments, President Trump did not back down.
“Well, we do have a lot of allies,” President Trump said to a group of reporteres, “but we cannot be taken advantage of.”
He also explained that NATO countries are taking advatage of the United States saying, “We lost $151 billion last year on trade. And on top of that, we spend at least 70 percent for NATO. And, frankly, it helps them a lot more than it helps us.”
He then encouraged NATO countries to start paying their fair share.
