Radical Islam apparently runs the Indonesian government. Jakarta’s outgoing governor was recently thrown in jail for ‘insulting the Quran.’
Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama was sentenced for 2 years by the radical Muslims in the Indonesian city.
Ahok is a Christian who was up for re-election. Ahok’s challenger was a Muslim candidate.
Ahok said in a speech back in 2016 that voters are being tricked into thinking that the Quran does not allow Muslims to vote for non-Muslims. That speech released the floodgates of Muslim Indonesians. They demanded Ahok be charged and to not to vote for him. That strategy was successful as Ahok lost the election.
Greg Fealy, a professor of Indonesian politics, told CNN that “the fact that Ahok was charged at all was really a product of massive street demonstrations that frightened the government into acting.” This is the point. The government is afraid that if it doesn’t react harshly to charges of blasphemy, its majority-Muslim population will riot.
As a Christian, Ahok was a minority and as the country’s largest city, Jakarta is part of the largest Muslim-majority country in the world. Indonesia is a quiet, but important piece in the global rise of radical Islam.
So if a Christian man gets jailed by one of the largest cities in the world, there needs to be more questions asked and more attention being paid to the growth of Islamism.
